Airspeed changes in a turn
Rolling into a level turn on back pressure alone: altitude holds, but with no extra power airspeed bleeds off.
Changing or correcting airspeed once established in a turn:
- Use straight-and-level pitch-and-power technique.
- Pitch and power move together. Back pressure without power, or power without pitch check, trades the error to another instrument.
While decelerating in a turn:
- Scan faster as power reduces.
- Altimeter and VSI catch pitch drift; bank instruments catch bank drift.
- Add power back as airspeed nears target; trim to hold.
Airspeed indicator, nose attitude in a turn (TP 1102):
| Nose | Airspeed |
|---|---|
| Too high | Decreasing |
| Too low | Rapid increase |
Trap: back pressure to hold altitude in a turn without power; airspeed bleeds instead.
