Climb speed correction for altitude
- Air thins with height: ASI under-reads, though true airspeed barely changes (TP 1102 Ex.7).
- Ignored: climb decays toward level flight.
- Rule of thumb: cut sea-level indicated climb speed by about 2 KT per 1,000 ft, excluding the first 1,000 ft.
| Altitude (indicated) | Indicated climb speed (90 KT at sea level) |
|---|---|
| 2,000 ft | 88 KT |
| 3,000 ft | 86 KT |
Trap: reading the falling ASI in a climb as a real slowdown, instead of correcting target indicated speed for altitude.
