Electrical fire in flight
Electrical fire: cut power first, then restore equipment one item at a time.
Steps:
- Turn off master (battery) switch and alternator/generator switch (TP 1102). Removes all power, stops further shorting. Cost: lose lighting, comms, nav on that power.
- Isolate fault: turn equipment back on one item at a time, significant wait between each. Shorting component can take time to heat up and smoulder again.
If:
- Burning smell returns after switching an item back on: see Trap.
- Fire generates acrid smoke: follow Aircraft Flight Manual smoke removal procedures for cabin fire (TP 1102).
Trap: last item switched on is not necessarily the cause.
