Gust-corrected approach speed
Gusty wind: add half the gust factor to calculated approach speed.
| Term | Value |
|---|---|
| Gust factor | gust speed minus steady wind speed |
| Addition | half the gust factor |
| Cap | 10 kt normally maximum addition |
- Example: wind gusting 15 to 25 kt, gust factor 10, so 65-kt approach becomes 70 kt.
- More than 10 kt risks landing run too long for runway.
Trap: halving the gust speed itself, or adding the whole gust factor. Halve the difference only.
