Vision disruption effects: afterimage, flash blindness, glare
Three bright-light effects (TC AIM GEN 5.1):
| Effect | What it is | Outlasts exposure | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Afterimage | Light, dark, or coloured spots; distracting | Yes | Can persist several minutes |
| Flash blindness | Temporary or permanent inability to see; bright light entering the eye | Yes | Until vision recovers |
| Glare | Disruption in vision from a bright light in the field of view | No | Only while light in view; stops when it leaves view or is blocked |
- Dividing line: duration after light ends.
- Glare: any bright light in view, not only lasers.
- Visible laser light can cause glare at energies well below eye-damage level (TC AIM).
Trap: calling lingering vision loss "glare." Glare ends with the light; an effect outlasting it is afterimage or flash blindness.
