Wake turbulence: roll hazard
Roll hazard (TC AIM AIR 2.9):
- Aircraft entering core tends to roll with it.
- Roll rate up to 80 degrees per second, twice some light aircraft's capability.
- Downdraft up to 1,500 ft/min, more than many aircraft can climb.
- Counter-roll usually effective. Short-span aircraft must be especially alert.
- Close-range vortex turbulence can damage components (PHAK ch.14; PSTAR 7.04).
Trap: assuming counter-roll always works; needs span and ailerons beyond the vortex.
