ATC circuit-sequencing instructions
ATC gives these after pointing out traffic you've confirmed in sight (NAV CANADA VFR Phraseology, ATC Circuit Instructions).
| Instruction | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Turn crosswind to follow traffic | don't turn crosswind until positioned to follow traffic on downwind |
| Extend downwind to follow traffic on final | stay on downwind, then turn base to follow that traffic |
| Continue downwind, I will advise base turn | stay on downwind until told to turn base |
| Do a right hand 360 | full 360-degree right turn, then rejoin the circuit |
| Make the next circuit right hand | switch from left-hand to right-hand circuit |
| Direct to threshold | straight line from current position to runway threshold |
Trap: reading Continue downwind, I will advise base turn as permission to turn base. Wait for the base turn call.
