Cancellation of distress and SEELONCE terms
Cancellation of distress (RIC-21 6.18): fixed script. Sent by the station that controlled the distress traffic, once distress is over, to ALL STATIONS on the distress frequency(ies) used. In order:
- "MAYDAY" (once)
- "HELLO ALL STATIONS" (three times)
- "THIS IS"
- the call sign of the station transmitting the message
- the filing time of the message
- the call sign of the station in distress (once)
- "SEELONCE FEENEE"
Also required (RIC-21 6.18 Note): normal call to the nearest aeronautical station, explaining the reasons for cancelling, so search-and-rescue knows the station is no longer in distress. Broadcast alone insufficient.
The SEELONCE family (distress-frequency silence procedure, RIC-21 App. B):
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| MAYDAY RELAY | spoken word for the distress relay signal |
| SEELONCE | silence imposed on frequency, distress in progress |
| SEELONCE MAYDAY | distress in progress; used by the station in distress or the station in control of the distress traffic |
| SEELONCE DISTRESS | other stations near a distress may impose silence, if essential |
| SEELONCE FEENEE | distress has ended |
Trap: only HELLO ALL STATIONS repeats three times; MAYDAY and the distress station's call sign go out once; broadcast alone fails the Note (RIC-21 6.18).
