Medical certificate restrictions
Category 3 medical can carry a restriction endorsement: extra condition for exercising privileges (Standard 424 App II).
| Restriction | Applies when | Condition | Cite |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hearing aid | Needs aid to meet Cat 3 hearing standard (3.31 or 3.32) | Endorsed "Valid only when wearing a satisfactory hearing aid"; privileges only while worn | 3.32(4) |
| Corrective lenses worn | Meets visual acuity (6/9 in each eye) only with correcting lenses | Lenses worn whenever exercising licence or rating privileges | 3.35(a) |
| Spare pair carried | Needs correcting lenses to meet standard | Spare pair of suitable correcting glasses available for immediate use whenever exercising privileges | 3.35(c) |
| Failed colour vision | Fails both plate test (3.39) and lantern or Farnsworth D-15 test (3.40), but found fit | Endorsed "Valid daylight only, 2-way radio required at controlled airports": no night flying; two-way radio at controlled airports | 3.41 |
- Sun lenses at night: prescription sun lenses cannot meet vision standard after dark, so do not satisfy lens requirement (3.37(2)).
Trap: prescription sunglasses never meet vision standard for night flight (3.37(2)); lens restriction still requires spare pair even when wearing primary lenses (3.35(c)).
