Medical review and exam duties
- Needs Civil Aviation Medicine Branch (CAMB) review before certification: conditions that could cause sudden or subtle incapacitation, e.g. epilepsy, heart disease, insulin-requiring diabetes, psychiatric illnesses (TC AIM AIR 3.1).
- Temporarily disqualifying only: anaemia, acute infections, gastrointestinal illnesses (TC AIM AIR 3.1).
Exam legal duties:
| Who | Duty | Ref |
|---|---|---|
| Candidate | Identify as licence holder before exam starts | Aeronautics Act s. 6.5(2) |
| Physician or optometrist | Notify Minister of any finding that may be a hazard to aviation safety; physician informs a Minister-designated medical adviser | s. 6.5(1); TC AIM AIR 3.1.1 |
| Candidate undergoing exam | Deemed consent to release of aviation-related findings to Minister | TC AIM AIR 3.1.1 |
Trap: assuming exam findings stay between candidate and doctor. Release consent is deemed, not signed (TC AIM AIR 3.1.1).
