MF position reports by flight phase
MF position reports keep pilots clear of each other.
Before entering the manoeuvring area: report intentions (CAR 602.99).
Arriving, VFR (CAR 602.101):
- At least 5 minutes before entering MF area, where circumstances permit: position, altitude, estimated time of landing, arrival procedure intentions (CAR 602.101(a)).
- Joining the circuit.
- Downwind, if applicable.
- Final.
- Clear of the surface landed on.
Departing:
- Call before moving onto the take-off surface (departure intentions).
- Before take-off, ascertain by radio and visual observation that no aircraft or vehicle is likely to conflict (CAR 602.100).
- If delayed after first call: broadcast intentions and expected length of delay, then rebroadcast departure intentions before moving onto the runway (TC AIM RAC 4.5.7(c)(i)).
- After take-off: report departing the circuit (CAR 602.100(c)).
Other flights:
| Flight | Reports | Cite |
|---|---|---|
| Continuous circuits (touch-and-goes) | Joining downwind leg, on final, clear of surface; each time round | CAR 602.102 |
| Flying through, no landing | Before entering (at least 5 minutes before if circumstances permit); again when clear of area | CAR 602.103 |
Delivery:
- Frequency: MF for all reports (CAR 602.98(1)).
- Recipient: ground station if one exists and is in operation; otherwise broadcast (CAR 602.98(2)).
- Broadcast address: aerodrome name + TRAFFIC, e.g. "FREDERICTON TRAFFIC" (TC AIM RAC 4.5.6).
- PSTAR 3.10: no ground station in operation, direct transmission to aerodrome traffic.
- Non-standard downwind altitude or circuit size: encouraged to report to ground station, else broadcast position and intentions (TC AIM RAC 4.5.2).
Trap: flying through an MF area needs two reports: before entry, when clear.
