Numeral pronunciation (radiotelephony)
Radio digits use fixed words so noise cannot turn one digit into another (RIC-21 5.3):
| Digit | Word |
|---|---|
| 0 | ZE-RO |
| 1 | WUN |
| 2 | TOO |
| 3 | TREE |
| 4 | FOW-er |
| 5 | FIFE |
| 6 | SIX |
| 7 | SEV-en |
| 8 | AIT |
| 9 | NIN-er |
- ATS uses NINER and FIFE. Pilot may say plain "nine" and "five" (NAV CANADA VFR Phraseology).
Other fixed words:
| Term | Word |
|---|---|
| decimal point | DAY-SEE-MAL |
| hundred | HUN-dred |
| thousand | TOU-SAND |
Trap: plain English digits (three, five, nine) instead of the standard word.
