Journey log check before flight and the owner or operator's duty
Pilot check before flight (TP 1102): journey log must be:
- The one assigned to the aircraft
- Up to date
- Complete: all airworthiness inspections, entries and certifications
Log irregularities can invalidate the Certificate of Airworthiness.
Pilot must know what log shows; decide informed on aircraft and intended flight (TC AIM LRA 5.6).
Owner/operator duty (TC AIM LRA 5.6.1). Owner/operator: person with legal custody and control of aircraft. Must ensure:
- Aircraft properly equipped
- Aircraft maintained to an approved maintenance schedule
- Defects recorded, then rectified or deferred
- Applicable ADs addressed
- Person intending to take off has information to establish airworthiness for intended flight (counterpart of pilot duty, TC AIM LRA 5.6)
Trap: checking only that log is on board; check right log, up to date, airworthiness entries certified.
