Pre-flight weather duty
The pilot-in-command must be familiar with the weather appropriate to the flight before departure (CAR 602.72).
Planning weather rules (MET 1.2.2):
- Use the most recent weather available.
- Watch for scheduled update times.
- Stay alert for unscheduled updates or amendments.
Trap: checking only the departure METAR when the duty covers the weather for the whole intended flight, or planning from the first or oldest report on file instead of the most recent weather available.
