Relief symbols and elevation readings
| Symbol | Shows |
|---|---|
| Tint (hypsometric tinting) | Elevation band: colour = height range (VNC legend; sample exam Q84) |
| Contour line | Points of equal ground elevation; printed interval = height step between lines |
| Big number in grid square | Maximum elevation figure: highest terrain or obstacle in square, ft ASL |
| Dot with number | Spot elevation: height of that exact point |
- Lindsay to Gananoque tint: ground sea level to 1,000 ft (sample exam Q84).
Trap: big grid number is highest terrain or obstacle in square, not one point's height; spot elevation is one exact point.
