EFB power and batteries
A portable EFB connects to aircraft power only through a certified power source, after a load analysis (AC 700-020 App D, Hardware, Connections (4)(b)(i)).
- A means other than a circuit breaker must de-power the EFB power source or charger.
- Evaluation checks (App E item 4): design considered electrical power sources and independence; useful battery life and battery replacement interval established; lithium battery safety addressed.
Trap: plugging a portable EFB into any cabin outlet. Only a certified power source, after load analysis, qualifies.
